Dear W&M Community,
I write to share that William & Mary’s Dean of the Mason School of Business, Todd Mooradian, is stepping down this fall following four years as the school’s leader and almost 30 years as a W&M professor. Please give him your warm congratulations as he begins a new chapter.
Dean Mooradian rejoined William & Mary in August 2022, following the retirement of Larry Pulley ’74. He previously served over 27 years in the Raymond A. Mason School of Business, credited with supporting the successful launch of William & Mary’s Online MBA and Master of Science in Business Analytics programs. He also served as dean of the business school at the University of Louisville. W&M was fortunate to recruit him back to conclude his career here.
The W&M Business School recorded a number of achievements under Dean Mooradian’s leadership. Most recently, the school was ranked No. 1 nationally in military-friendly graduate education, having developed new supporting programs such as the Center for Military Transition. The Mason School also launched a redesigned Bachelor of Business Administration for undergraduate students, a more personal and flexible iteration of the Online MBA, and updated graduate programs to align with rapidly evolving needs in the business environment. These are points of great pride for the Mason School and William & Mary.
With Dean Mooradian’s oversight and forward thinking, the university established the new Center for Excellence in Accounting in 2025 with a significant philanthropic investment and partnership with Rob W. Estes ’74 and Jean Berger Estes ’74. The center is designed to elevate the strategic role of Accounting and draw more students to this impactful career path.
Dean Mooradian guided significant engagements in artificial intelligence, leading to greater AI adoption and proficiency among faculty, staff, and students. This included creation of the AI Summit, faculty mini-grants, and AI teaching and research symposia.
“I want to express my gratitude to Todd for his decades of committed service to the Mason School,” said Don Lowman, MBA ’82 and Chairman of the William & Mary School of Business Foundation. “As a professor, Dean, colleague, friend, and unsurpassed supporter of Tribe athletics, Todd has brought energy and enthusiasm to every role he has played. His last four years as Dean were pivotal in positioning the Mason School to navigate the many challenges that lie ahead. I have enjoyed partnering with Todd and wish him the best in his next chapter.”
For these reasons and more, I warmly thank Dean Mooradian for his devoted service to William & Mary.
As we embark on a national search for a successor, I am pleased to share that Ron Hess M.B.A. ’94, Larry Ring Executive MBA Professor of Business and Vice Dean for Academic Programs, has agreed to serve as interim dean of the school. Ron is a confident leader with a strong history of service to the university and the school, including as director of the Online MBA program and with multiple appointments to Faculty Assembly and other committees. I invite you to learn more about his scholarship and leadership on his faculty directory page.
