William & Mary President Katherine A. Rowe sent the following message to the campus community on Dec. 5, 2022. – Ed.

Dear W&M community,

I am pleased to share that following a national search I have appointed Jeremy Martin Ph.D. ’12, M.B.A. ’17 as William & Mary’s vice president for strategy & innovation (VPSI). In this role, Dr. Martin will oversee the offices of Strategic Initiatives and Public Affairs, University Marketing and Enrollment. He will draw on his deep knowledge of W&M and higher education to develop strategies for future enrollment, strengthen the university’s primary revenue stream and elevate the university’s overall brand.

Many at W&M know Dr. Martin as an insightful and caring colleague. Dr. Martin has served in W&M’s president’s office since 2009, as associate provost, assistant to the president and, most recently, chief of staff. As co-chair of the strategic planning steering committee, he supported an inclusive, university-wide strategic planning process to develop Vision 2026. This fall he has served in a bridge leadership capacity for strategy and innovation. He brings a deep understanding of W&M’s strategic opportunities and challenges, broad expertise and the deftness as a leader to take our enrollment, marketing, communications and strategy efforts to the next level.

Dr. Martin served as Interim Athletics Director from 2020-21, and co-chaired the search committee that recruited Brian Mann. As Interim Athletics Director, he earned the trust of the university community and charted a sustainable path forward for Athletics. In 2021, he received the Aceto Award for excellence in service to the campus community.

More information about Dr. Martin’s experience, credentials and service is detailed in our press release. I am deeply grateful to the search committee, led by Professor Michael Luchs, and to all who participated in the interview process. From an exceptional pool of candidates, they secured us an outstanding VPSI.

Please join me in extending warm wishes to Dr. Martin and his family as he takes on this new leadership position at W&M.

Sincerely,

Katherine
