University Communications is preparing to launch a new website for W&M News, the official source of news about the Alma Mater of the Nation.
The new site’s cleaner, more modern design includes larger images, a section for featured videos and a selection of categories and tags that will highlight various aspects of the university. The site is set to go live on June 1 at news.wm.edu
“The design team utilized trends seen across news outlets in building this new site,” said Suzanne Clavet, director of news and media. “We hope the new features make accessing our content a more familiar and user-friendly experience.”
Along with news stories, the site will include campus announcements, featured video and links to a media kit and new form where members of the campus community may submit story suggestions.
The new site was designed and developed in-house by professionals within Web & Design, in coordination with News & Media staff members.
“In reimagining a more modern presentation for W&M News, we utilized a platform with inherent features such as categories, tags and a trending news algorithm providing an enhanced experience for consumption of news content,” said Tina Coleman, director of university web & design.
All of the news stories from 2022 have been migrated to the new site. Older stories will be archived and still available through the search function on the W&M website and the new W&M News site.
