W&M Police Chief Deb Cheesebro, co-chair of the Emergency Management Team, sent the following message to the campus community on Sept. 1, 2022. – Ed.

Dear William & Mary community –

A break in a sewage pipe behind the Campus Living Center was discovered this afternoon. The storm water management system is containing the spill. No building facilities are currently impacted.

The university, in consultation with the Virginia Departments of Health and Environmental Quality, is managing the response to the leak. You may find some pathways in the vicinity of the Wellness and Campus Living Centers temporarily blocked as Facilities Management addresses repairs.

As a precautionary measure water quality in Lake Matoaka is being monitored, but it is safe for use.
