Senior Vice President for Student Affairs & Public Safety Ginger Ambler sent the following message to the campus community on Aug. 2, 2024. – Ed.

Dear William & Mary Community,

I write today to share heartbreaking news about a member of the William & Mary family. Edward “Eddie” Harold Kline III, passed away on Thursday, July 18. Eddie was in the process of earning an MBA from our Raymond A. Mason School of Business.

Eddie led a joyful and passionate life, brightening the spirits of all who knew him. Since courageously fighting and beating cancer as a teenager, Eddie had made his home in Hampton Roads. He was a graduate of Christopher Newport University, and a valued employee of Newport News Shipbuilding since 2019. He was also an active member of the Lifepoint Hampton Roads church in Norfolk. With a love for music and history, Eddie volunteered at the Wigmaker Shop at Colonial Williamsburg and helped support the preservation of National Parks and Battlefields through his passionate involvement in historical reenacting.

According to his obituary, “[Eddie] was a helping neighbor, a loyal friend, a caring sibling, an incredibly faithful son, and a committed, loving fiancé. He had a contagious sense of humor that brought smiles, laughter and light everywhere he went . . . While he will be sorely missed, his legacy of spreading joy will live on through the lives of all those blessed to know Eddie.”

Eddie’s family celebrated his life at a memorial service at Calvary Reformed Presbyterian Church in Hampton on Friday, July 26. They welcome donations to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Eddie’s memory.

In this time of mourning, please know there are resources available for anyone who needs them. Counselors may be reached anytime by phone at 757-221-3620, or you may access a variety of services through TimelyCare, including 24/7 on-demand emotional support, counseling and guided self-care. TimelyCare is a free resource available to all faculty, staff and students, including online students.

Our community is diminished by this terrible loss. I know you join me in expressing our deepest condolences to Eddie’s loved ones and to the many whose lives were touched by his goodness.

Sincerely,
Ginger Ambler
