William & Mary President Katherine A. Rowe sent the following message to the campus community on Sept. 7, 2022. – Ed.

Dear William & Mary Community,

I write to share the news that COO Amy Sebring will become Virginia Tech’s next Executive Vice President and CBO next month. This new role will build on Ms. Sebring’s leadership experience here at W&M, expanding her professional scope significantly.

As W&M’s COO, Ms. Sebring is known for her swift intelligence, mission-driven approach and transparency. She oversaw tech innovations to improve business processes and helped develop W&M’s comprehensive housing and dining plan. As chair of the Public Health Advisory Team for two years, Ms. Sebring put the health and wellbeing of our community at the forefront of every adaptation – so that our faculty and staff could keep teaching, continue their research, and ensure our students were on track to their degrees.

Ms. Sebring’s last day at W&M will be Oct. 11. In the next two weeks, I will launch a national search, with the goal of appointing her successor in the new year. As we prepare for Ms. Sebring’s departure, I am grateful to Jackie Ferree, Associate Vice President, Business Services and Organizational Excellence, for agreeing to serve as Interim COO during the transition. Ms. Ferree brings experience in financial and operational management, allowing us to maintain the momentum that Ms. Sebring has helped us build.

Please join me in extending warm congratulations to Ms. Sebring as she begins this exciting new chapter in her career.

Sincerely,

– Katherine
